Conceptual Project for the Historic Windmills of Değirmenburnu in Bodrum and Their Immediate Surroundings

Değirmenburnu is a strong reflection of Bodrum’s relationship with wind, sea, and production. The eight windmills stand as visible witnesses to this heritage. The project aims to make this heritage readable once again, bringing together the wind, rocky topography, maquis vegetation, maritime culture, and milling tradition within a unified design framework. The idea of the archipelago establishes a broader cultural network. The concepts of wind and time shape the spatial experience, while the idea of a working landscape reveals the site’s history of production. The conservation strategy embraces both the historic structures and the surrounding landscape. Together, these ideas form a clear spatial journey, extending from the entrance square to the large windmill at the furthest point of the site.
